Ba, Sr, and Rb feldspar/melt partitioning in recent eruptions from Teide-Pico Viejo volcanic complex, Tenerife: New insights into pre-eruptive processes

چکیده
The behaviour of Group I and II elements during the petrogenesis felsic igneous rocks is largely controlled by feldspar-liquid relationships. Numerous experimental studies have addressed plagioclase/melt element partitioning, with fewer devoted to potassium feldspar, very few albite-rich ternary-composition feldspar (An ∼ Or < Ab). However, partition coefficient for Ba known increase at least an order magnitude through crystallisation sequence sodic plagioclase–anorthoclase–potassium that typical alkaline suites. Feldspars, glasses, whole in such suites may exhibit strong enrichments depletions can be used track processes crystal fractionation, cumulate formation, recycling. Here, we review feldspar/melt partitioning data Ba, Sr, Rb all feldspars. Regression available provides expressions appear adequately model compositional temperature dependence coefficients compositions. We applied this melt compositions products several Holocene eruptions (Pico Viejo C, Pico H, Teide J2, Lavas Negras, Arenas Blancas, Montaña Rajada Reventada) basanitic-phonolitic suite Teide-Pico volcanic system (Tenerife, Spain), using EPMA LA-ICP-MS analyses. Comparing analysed feldspar/groundmass pairs predicted obtained models a way distinguishing between feldspars are or out equilibrium their host melt, reconstructing histories. results demonstrate existence distinct population had undergone accumulation, fusion recrystallisation events, Negras Blancas flows. In addition, anomalous trachytic composition Reventada due melting feldspar-dominated cumulate. Application these techniques active magmatic systems will allow us better understanding different pre-eruptive processes, ultimately improve hazard assessment.

Experimental Constraints on Forecasting the Location of Volcanic Eruptions from Pre-eruptive Surface Deformation
Volcanic eruptions pose a threat to lives and property when volcano flanks and surroundings are densely populated. The local impact of an eruption depends firstly on its location, whether it occurs near a volcano summit, or down on the flanks. Then forecasting, with a defined accuracy, the location of a potential, imminent eruption would significantly improve the assessment and mitigation of vo...
متن کاملStorage conditions and eruptive dynamics of central versus flank eruptions in volcanic islands: the case of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain)
We report the results of phase equilibrium experiments on a phonolite produced during one of the most voluminous flank eruptions (ca. 1 km 3) of the Teide-Pico Viejo complex (Tenerife Island). Combined with previous experimental and volcanological data we address the factors that control the structure of the phonolitic plumbing system of Teide-Pico Viejo stratovolcanoes. The Roques Blancos phon...
متن کاملOn the predictability of volcano-tectonic events by low frequency seismic noise analysis at Teide-Pico Viejo volcanic complex, Canary Islands
The island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), is showing possible signs of reawakening after its last basaltic strombolian eruption, dated 1909 at Chinyero. The main concern relates to the central active volcanic complex Teide – Pico Viejo, which poses serious hazards to the properties and population of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain), and which has erupted several times during...

The new anomaly map images the high-density core of the CVC and the pronounced gravity low...
متن کاملNew geochemical insights into volcanic degassing.
Magma degassing plays a fundamental role in controlling the style of volcanic eruptions. Whether a volcanic eruption is explosive, or effusive, is of crucial importance to approximately 500 million people living in the shadow of hazardous volcanoes worldwide. Studies of how gases exsolve and separate from magma prior to and during eruptions have been given new impetus by the emergence of more a...
